Are you a disciple…
or just a believer.
It’s a sharp question.
But the Gospel often cuts before it heals.
If Jesus followed you for one ordinary day—
what would He see.
Would He recognize His teaching
in your choices,
your patience,
your mercy.
And if an everyday person walked beside you—
would they see the Gospel lived,
or only spoken.
Do you go to Mass every Sunday.
Do you seek confession often,
or only when guilt finally wins.
Do you sit before the Lord in adoration—
even once a month—
and let His gaze reshape your heart.
If I passed your house…
your desk…
your life…
would anything whisper,
“A Catholic lives here.”
Because you’re either in…
or you’re out.
Not perfect—
but committed.
Not flawless—
but surrendered.
Saint John tells us:
the victor over the world
is the one who believes
that Jesus is the Son of God.
Not a belief of the lips,
but a belief carried in the bones—
Spirit, water, and Blood—
a testimony alive inside us.
And then the leper kneels before Jesus.
“Lord, if you wish,
you can make me clean.”
And Jesus reaches,
touches,
restores.
And after the miracle,
He withdraws to pray—
returning again to the Father.
So maybe the question isn’t meant to shame us,
but to awaken us.
Are we disciples—
following,
returning,
trusting—
or believers from a distance.
The Lord is willing.
The Lord is near.
The Lord is calling us deeper.
Let’s step in.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
draw me from belief into discipleship.
Cleanse what is wounded,
strengthen what is weak,
and awaken what has grown quiet in me.
Let my life speak Your name—
in my home,
in my work,
in the hidden hours no one sees.
Give me the courage to return to You,
the humility to be formed by You,
and the desire to follow You
with a whole and willing heart.
fully, simply, and without hesitation.
Amen.
