Purpose and Presence

readings 101325

What is the purpose of a life?

It’s a question we carry quietly. Sometimes with urgency. Sometimes with wonder.
And the answer? It’s not the same for everyone.
Each of us is created with a purpose—a path, a calling, a mission—
and it flows from the heart of God.

To discover that purpose, we must say yes.
Not just once, but again and again.
Yes to grace. Yes to mystery.
Yes to the slow, sacred unfolding of God’s will in our lives.

The path won’t always be straight.
It may twist through valleys.
It may fork into choices we never expected.
But if we remain in Christ—rooted in love, in prayer, in trust—
it all leads to God.
Every detour. Every delay. Every surrender.
It’s all part of the journey home.

Our purpose is not passive.
It’s our living response to a living God.
Faith is not a feeling—it’s a choice.
A choice to trust. A choice to obey. A choice to belong.
God initiates. We respond.
Grace comes first. Peace follows when we receive it with open hearts.

At the center of our faith is hope.
Not vague optimism. Not wishful thinking.
But a hope rooted in resurrection.
Jesus rose. Death did not win.
Suffering is not meaningless.
In Christ risen, we see the triumph of God over every grave.
And we hear the promise of life for all who suffer and die.

This hope is not distant.
It is deeply personal.
Because we are made in the image and likeness of God.
We are wired for communion.
Made to relate to God—not just as creatures to Creator,
but as children to a loving Father,
as disciples to a living Lord.

Paul understood this.
He called himself “a slave of Christ Jesus, set apart for the Gospel.”
That wasn’t a title—it was the center of his life.
To preach the good news of Jesus was his purpose.

Jesus, too, confronted a generation that demanded signs.
They missed the truth already present.
They wanted wonders, but ignored the Word standing right in front of them.

And so Jesus says:
You already have the sign.
You already have the truth.
Don’t miss it.

The call is clear.
The purpose of our life flows from God’s grace—
to reveal the Gospel, to live the truth of salvation.
Made in his image.
Our purpose is to hear, to relate, to respond.

So today—if you hear his voice,
harden not your heart.
Let your life be the yes that leads others home.

A Prayer of Purpose and Presence

Lord,
You are the beginning and the end,
the whisper in our wondering,
the light on every path.

Today, I say yes to You.
Yes to grace. Yes to mystery.
Yes to the purpose You’ve planted deep within me.

Help me walk with trust,
even when the way is unclear.
Let every step be a response to Your love,
every breath a song of gratitude.

You have made known Your salvation.
Let my life reflect it.
Let my heart remain soft.
And let me never miss the sign
already given in Christ,
who lives and reigns forever.

Amen.
