The Blessing of Living Love

readings 101125

 My wife and I—we’re caregivers.

We care for both of our mothers.
And most days are just fine.
But caregiving… it’s still hard sometimes.

It takes commitment.
It takes love.
It takes a little sacrifice—
and a whole lot of remembering
that there’s something greater than yourself.

Because caregiving isn’t just a task.
It’s a calling.
And it’s not just about our mothers.
We’re called to care for all of God’s creation—
the earth, the poor, the suffering,
the ones the world forgets.

But we begin with those closest to us.
The ones we can touch.
The ones who touch us.
That’s where love starts.
That’s where holiness begins.

Some folks miss that.
They look past the ones right in front of them,
chasing something bigger, louder, more impressive.
But Jesus—He reminds us what true blessing looks like.

A woman once cried out,
“Blessed is the womb that carried you!”
And Jesus said,
“Rather, blessed are those
who hear the word of God and observe it.”

He wasn’t dismissing His mother.
He was honoring her deeper yes—
the yes of faith,
the yes of obedience,
the yes of love lived out.

Mary is blessed,
not just because she gave birth to Jesus,
but because she listened—
and let God’s Word shape her life.

That’s our invitation too.
Holiness isn’t about status.
It’s not about being close to Jesus in name.
It’s about love in action.
It’s about hearing the Word—
and letting it guide our choices.

Especially in the quiet.
Especially in the ordinary.
Especially in the caregiving.

So today,
don’t just admire the Word.
Live it.
In compassion.
In every small yes.

That’s where the blessing is.

A Prayer for Caregivers

Lord,
Thank You for the ones You’ve placed in our care.
Help us love with quiet faith,
serve with steady hands,
and listen with open hearts.

May Your Word guide us,
and may every small yes
draw us closer to You.

Amen.
