Whenever someone asks me to pray for them,
I always start in the same place:
I ask God to give them faith.
Because if they’re seeking peace,
they need faith to believe
that God can calm what storms inside them.
If they’re seeking healing,
they need faith to trust
that God can touch what is broken.
Whatever they bring to God—
it begins with faith.
And maybe that’s why so many people struggle.
They say,
“I’ve prayed.
I’ve asked.
God never answers.”
But sometimes the real wound
is that they never believed
He would.
Scripture doesn’t hide this from us.
James tells us that trials test our faith,
and that tested faith
produces perseverance.
He says if we lack wisdom,
ask God—
but ask in faith,
not doubting,
because doubt tosses us around
like waves in the wind.
Even the psalmist admits,
“Before I was afflicted, I went astray,
but now I hold to Your promise.”
Faith grows in the places
where life has humbled us.
And Jesus Himself sighs
when the Pharisees demand a sign.
Not because He is tired of them—
but because faith that depends on proof
isn’t faith at all.
So when someone asks me to pray,
I pray first for faith—
the faith that steadies us,
the faith that opens us,
the faith that lets God be God.
Because everything we seek from Him
flows through trust in Him.
And faith, even the size of a mustard seed,
is enough for God to work wonders.
Prayer
Lord, give us the faith that steadies our hearts.
Let peace come where we trust You.
Let healing rise where we believe You can heal.
When we ask for wisdom, make our asking bold.
Calm the waves that toss our doubts.
Hold us close when trials press in.
Grow in us a faith that opens every door to You.
Amen
