In every moral moment,
we stand at a quiet crossroads.
One path is wide, easy, and crowded.
The other is narrow, quiet, and demanding.
Jesus names this truth with piercing clarity:
“Do to others whatever you would have them do to you…
Enter through the narrow gate.”
The moral life is not content with admiring the good
or agreeing with it from a distance.
The moral life acts.
Because knowing the right thing is only the beginning;
doing the right thing is the true measure of the heart.
And the narrow gate is not hidden.
It appears each time we guard what is holy,
each time we choose kindness over retaliation,
each time we hold to integrity when convenience calls our name.
Few choose this road, Jesus says—
not because it is impossible,
but because it requires courage, intention, and love.
So today, pause at the crossroads.
Let grace steady your steps.
Choose the good you already know—
for that road leads to life.
The narrow gate is entered
not by knowing the good,
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
Steady my heart at every crossroads.
Guard what is holy within me.
Give me courage to choose the narrow way.
Let love guide my steps toward life.
Make me faithful in the good I already know.
Amen.
