Jesus Makes Me Relax

Readings 030226

My six‑year‑old granddaughter
falls asleep to the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
When asked why, she simply says,
“Jesus makes me relax.”

A whole truth lives in that little line—
a child who knows
she doesn’t earn love,
she rests in it.
A child who knows
mercy is a place to lie down,
not a prize to win.

And today’s Scriptures
lean us in the very same direction.

Daniel names a nation’s failure,
yet still whispers,
“Yours, O Lord,
are compassion and forgiveness.”

The psalm pleads from low places,
“Remember not the iniquities of the past.”

And Jesus calls us
into the Father’s own heart:
“Be merciful,
as your Father is merciful.”

All of it gathers into one truth—
God makes us good
by His mercy,
not by our performance.

So maybe God is asking us
the same bedtime question
He whispers to a child:

Will you let Me make you good
by My mercy?
Not by your effort.
Not by your perfection.
Not by your record.
But by your surrender.

Because holiness doesn’t begin
with trying harder—
holiness begins
with resting in the One
who makes us new.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion,
have mercy on us
and on the whole world.

Mercy Prayer

Jesus, let Your mercy
be the place where I rest.
Quiet my striving,
soften my fear.
Make me good
by Your gentle grace.
Teach my heart to surrender,
and make me new.

Amen
