Homily Reflection for the Solemnity of the Assumption Our Lady of Fatima Elementary – Grades 2–8
Good morning, Falcons! Welcome back to school.
I want to ask you a question. Who remembers how I started our times togethers here at mass. If you don't remember, I’ll give you the answer.
I ask this question. "Who loves you?"
The answer - “Jesus loves me!”
Let’s say it again, louder this time.
Who loves you?
“Jesus loves me!”
That’s good... but let’s tell everyone on this block.
Who loves you?
“Jesus loves me!”
Even better! Now let’s tell everyone in town.
Who loves you?
“Jesus loves me!”
Amen!
It’s so great to see all of you here today—
on this very special day in our Church.
We’re celebrating something amazing:
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Now, “Assumption” is a big word.
But here’s what it means:
Mary was taken up to heaven—body and soul!
No waiting room. No long lines.
Straight to heaven.
Why?
Because Jesus loves His mom that much.
Let’s imagine it together...
Mary’s Special Role
Mary isn’t just any woman.
She’s the mother of Jesus.
That means she’s also called the Mother of God.
She carried Jesus in her womb, raised Him, and stayed close to Him—even at the cross.
She was brave, loving, and faithful.
And because she loved Jesus so much—and He loved her even more—
He gave her a special gift:
He brought her to heaven to be with Him forever.
A Sky Full of Signs
One of our readings today gives us a wild and beautiful picture:
A woman in the sky, wearing the sun like a jacket,
Standing on the moon, and crowned with twelve stars.
Can you imagine that?
Mary glowing like the sun, crowned like a queen.
And even when a scary dragon tries to stop her—yes, a dragon in the Bible!—
God protects her and her baby, Jesus.
It’s like a superhero story—but better.
Because it’s real. God is real. Jesus is real. And, Mary is real.
And it shows us that when life gets scary, God is always with us.
Just like He was with Mary.
Mary the Queen
The psalm says, “The queen stands at your right hand, dressed in gold.”
That’s Mary again!
She’s not just Jesus’s mom—she’s the Queen of Heaven.
But she’s not bossy or fancy.
She’s gentle, kind, and always praying for us.
Think of her like the best kind of mom—
One who listens, loves, and never stops cheering you on.
A Promise for Us
St. Paul tells us that Jesus rose from the dead—
And that He’s the “firstfruits.”
That means He’s the first and best to rise,
And He’s making a way for us.
And guess who He brought with Him first?
Mary!
Her Assumption is a promise:
If we love God like she did,
We can go to heaven too.
A Visit Full of Joy
Before all this, Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth.
And something amazing happened—
Elizabeth’s baby jumped for joy inside her!
That baby was John the Baptist.
He was excited because Mary was carrying Jesus.
And Mary?
She sang a song to God—full of joy and trust.
Can you imagine Mary singing?
Maybe not like a pop star,
But with joy that filled the sky.
She didn’t brag.
She didn’t complain.
She just said, “God is good, and I’m His servant.”
Why Is the Assumption Important?
Because we celebrate Mary and her special place in heaven.
But it also reminds us:
To say yes to God, even when it’s confusing.
To be brave when life gets hard.
To trust that heaven is real—
And God wants you there.
It also reminds us to sing with joy
When you feel God’s love—
Sing it loud so the world can hear:
“Yes, Jesus loves me!”
Amen!
