Our Walk with God: Interior Freedom and the Grace of the Walk (St. John Vianney) Aug 4, 2025

 bible/readings/080425

I’ve been praying lately about where God is leading me—especially in how I share reflections. I keep wondering: should I lean more into Ignatian spirituality? That way of seeing God in all things, of listening deeply, of walking slowly with Him.

And you know what? God answers. Sometimes in quiet nudges. Sometimes in bold clarity.

Just yesterday, Father referenced St. Ignatius’ Principle and Foundation. He said it simply:

“Use the things that bring you closer to God. Let go of the things that keep you from Him.”

And I felt it—like God whispering, “Yes. Keep walking.”

🍞 Manna and the Miracle of Enough

Think back to the Israelites in the desert. God gave them manna—just enough for each day. Not too much. Not too little. But enough. And they had to trust. No storing up. No controlling. Just receiving.

Then fast forward to the disciples with five loaves and two fish. A hungry crowd. Their instinct? “Send them away.” But Jesus said, “Give me what you have.” And in that offering, abundance happened.

That’s the rhythm of grace. That’s the miracle of enough.

Ignatius reminds us:

We’re created to praise, reverence, and serve God.
Everything else either helps us do that—or gets in the way.

🌿 Listening for God in the Quiet

God speaks to us all the time. But we need to slow down to hear Him.

Ignatian spirituality teaches us to notice God in the everyday. In the quiet. In the ordinary. It’s not about doing more—it’s about being present. Being still. Being open.

“Let the soul learn how to be still in God.”
“Let go of the need to control. Receive the grace of the moment.”

That’s what discernment is. It’s not about panic or pressure. It’s about Presence. Trusting that God is enough. That what He gives is good. That He’s walking with us.

🚶 Walking with God, One Step at a Time

Walking with God isn’t a sprint. It’s a slow, steady walk. It’s noticing. Trusting. Letting go of fear and grabbing hold of grace.

It’s not about certainty. It’s about companionship. And God’s presence is our provision.

So let’s ask ourselves:

  • What am I clinging to that keeps me from receiving today’s grace?

  • What attachments are pulling me away from praising and serving God?

  • Can I be still enough to notice that God is walking right beside me?

🙏 A Simple Prayer

Lord, teach me to walk with You—
not ahead, not behind, but beside.

Help me slow down.
Help me be still.
Help me trust.

Free me from the noise and the need to control.
Let me receive today’s grace with open hands.
Let me offer what I have, even if it feels small.

In the quiet, may I find You.
In the walk, may I follow You.
In all things, may I praise, reverence, and serve You.

Amen.
