Yesterday, I met a man I never expected to pray with—a car salesman who shared his story with tears. For more than twenty years he had been a minister. Then came the burnout. Then the enemy’s attack. Then the heartbreak of his wife leaving. He spoke from a place of deep loss, yet there was something unmistakably holy in his honesty.
In that moment, I was reminded of a truth woven through Scripture:
God’s call is given to the unlikely.
David was unlikely. The Apostles were unlikely. And sometimes the unlikely one is the person standing right in front of us—wounded, humbled, unsure of what comes next.
But every call begins in the same place:
God’s mission begins with being close to Him.
Before Jesus sent the Twelve, He called them simply to be with Him.
Before David ever held a crown, he learned to listen for God in hidden places.
Before any of us can serve, we must rest again in the shadow of His wings.
So my prayer for this man was simple:
that he would know the richness of God’s Kingdom,
that the Holy Spirit would overshadow him,
that Christ’s love would heal his heart,
and that the Father would speak again to the place inside him that still aches.
Because this is God’s deepest desire—
reconciliation.
Reconciliation within the heart.
Reconciliation between our wounds and God’s grace.
Reconciliation between who we were and who God is still calling us to be.
And in that small moment, God was doing what He always does—
calling the unlikely,
drawing a hurting heart close,
and beginning the quiet work of healing.
Prayer of Healing
Lord God,
Let Your Kingdom rise within us—
not in power, but in peace.
Overshadow us with Your Spirit,
where the fire has dimmed and the ache still lingers.
Let Christ’s love reach the broken places
and heal what sorrow could not touch.
Speak again, Father,
to the silence inside that longs to hear Your voice.
Make this us whole in Your mercy,
and send us forward with grace.
Amen
