Jesus steps into the house,
and the crowd presses in—
so close, so hungry, so desperate for Him.
And right there, in the crush of bodies and longing,
His own relatives misunderstand.
They look at Him and say,
“He’s out of His mind.”
Not because they reject Him,
but because God’s truth has moved beyond their comfort zone.
Grace is stretching them,
and they don’t know what to do with it.
But the Church teaches us something essential here:
God’s Word does not come to keep us comfortable.
Christ’s call rarely fits our expectations.
Grace often disrupts before it heals.
Truth often unsettles before it saves.
So we pray,
“Open our hearts, O Lord,
to listen to the words of Your Son.”
Because listening to Jesus means surrendering control.
It means letting go of the tidy version of faith we prefer.
It means trusting that what seems foolish to the world
is wisdom from God.
Every vocation…
every conversion…
every moment of mission carries this same truth:
To follow Christ is to risk being misunderstood—
even by the people who love us most.
Yet the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear Him,
upon those who hope in His mercy.
And when we open our hearts to His Word,
even the discomfort becomes grace.
For the open heart hears beyond the noise.
It hears the voice of the Son.
And that voice leads to life.
Prayer
O Lord,
break open my heart for Your Word.
Shake what is comfortable,
disrupt what is small,
and draw me into the deeper truth of Your Son.
When Your grace unsettles me,
give me courage.
When Your call stretches me,
give me trust.
Let me hear Your voice above every noise,
and follow You even when I am misunderstood.
For Your Word leads to life,
and Your mercy is my strength.
Amen
