Christ is My King

Readings 011626

I’ve been trying to buy a new truck,
and it’s amazing what that process reveals.

All I want is a simple, basic truck.
But I can’t buy a truck like my grandfather bought.
I can’t even buy a truck as simple as my first one.

The world doesn’t want simple anymore.
It wants bigger.
Louder.
Flashier.
More screens, more gadgets, more ways to show off.

And if you want something plain—
something humble—
something that just does the job—
you have to special‑order it.
You have to go out of your way
to choose simplicity.

And as I’ve been looking around,
I see the same thing happening in our hearts.

We worship our possessions.
We worry more about what the neighbors see in our driveway
than whether anyone sees Christ in our lives.
We chase the kings of this world—
status, power, approval—
just like Israel did.
“Give us a king like the other nations.”
Give us something impressive.
Give us something people will notice.

But God warns us:
those kings take.
They take our peace,
our freedom,
our joy.
They demand more and more
and give back less and less.

And then Jesus steps into the Gospel
and shows us the real King.
The King who doesn’t take—He gives.
He forgives.
He heals.
He restores.
He lifts a man off his mat
and gives him back his life.

The truth is simple and searching:
when we trust the kings of this world, we lose freedom.
When we turn back to God,
we find mercy, healing,
and the only leadership that can save us.

So I stand in faith today:
Christ is my King, and in Him alone I find my freedom.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,
quiet my heart and clear my vision.
Pull me away from every false king
and draw me back to You alone.

Be my strength, my freedom, my peace.
Heal what is wounded,
lift what has fallen,
and reign in every corner of my life.

You are my King,
now and forever.
