Revealed to the Childlike

Readings 071526

Today is the Feast of St. Bonaveture
Bishop and Doctor of the Church.

There is a quiet truth

running through all of Scripture:

God reveals Himself not to the self‑assured,

not to the powerful,

but to the childlike—

to the ones who come with open hands

and a heart willing to be led.

This is the very heartbeat of St. Bonaventure’s wisdom.

He taught that true knowledge of God

does not rise from brilliance or argument,

but from humble surrender—

the smallness that makes room for grace.

Isaiah carries that truth across centuries of sorrow and exile.

He does not show us an angry God,

but a faithful Father

who names sin because it destroys,

and who speaks hope because He refuses

to abandon His people.

A child born for us.

A shoot from the stump of Jesse.

A Servant who heals through suffering.

A new heaven and a new earth rising from the ashes.

Isaiah’s generation died waiting in the dark—

but we do not.

We see the promise fulfilled in Jesus Christ.

And Jesus proclaims:

“No one knows the Father except the Son—

and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”

That is grace.

That is gift.

That is the tenderness of God

stooping low to meet the childlike heart.

Rest in that grace today.

The Lord has not abandoned His people.

He has revealed Himself to you.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, reveal the Father

to my childlike heart.

Let Your light quiet every fear within me.

Teach me to trust more than I understand.

Heal what is wounded

and restore what is lost.

Keep me rooted in Your faithful love today.

Amen
