Readings 112325
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
Saint Paul proclaims:
“He is the image of the invisible God…
in him all things hold together…
and through him all things are reconciled.”
This is not poetry alone.
It is truth.
It is the foundation of our faith.
It is the heartbeat of the Church.
The World’s Chaos vs. Christ’s Reign
Look around at the world.
We see violence, unrest, rebellion.
People rise against rulers, against systems, against one another.
Some celebrate chaos. Others live in fear.
And some even wonder: Does God care?
Yes—God cares.
The feast we celebrate today is proof.
At the end of every liturgical year, the Church proclaims:
Christ is King.
Not just of heaven. Not just of the Church.
But of the universe. Of everything.
A Child’s Witness
I know this truth because a child once proclaimed it.
My grandson said to his mother:
“Mom, you know… Jesus is the King of everything.”
She asked, “How do you know?”
He answered, “Jesus told me.”
Maybe he heard it in class.
Maybe he heard it at Mass.
But it touched his heart so deeply,
that he knew—Jesus had spoken to him.
This is the same Jesus who said, “Let the children come to me.”
The same Jesus who took his throne upon the cross.
The same Jesus who reigns not with armies,
but with mercy, forgiveness, and love.
The Kingdom Given to Us
The world cannot give us this kingdom.
But God has given it freely.
He has delivered us from darkness,
and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son.
In Christ we have redemption.
In Christ we have forgiveness.
In Christ we have peace—
peace made by the blood of his cross.
Our Baptismal Call
Through Baptism, God asks us to proclaim this kingdom.
Not only with words, but with lives.
If we fail to proclaim Christ as King,
our churches will grow empty,
our sacraments forgotten,
and the ugliness of the world will be all that people see.
But when we proclaim Christ as King—
in our homes, in our workplaces, in our daily witness—
then hope shines.
Then grace flows.
Then the world sees light in the darkness.
Sending Forth
And so, friends, we begin here—at this altar.
We celebrate our God and our King.
But we cannot stop here.
Go out.
Tell someone who is not here today:
“Jesus Christ is King of Everything.”
Tell someone who needs hope,
who needs grace,
who needs to know that God cares.
It is a simple message.
It is the greatest truth.
Let Jesus speak to their hearts.
Be good.
Be holy.
Proclaim by your life that Jesus Christ is your King.
The King of the Universe.
The King of Everything.
Amen.
Prayer: Christ the King
Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe,
You are before all things,
and in You all things hold together.
You reign not with armies,
but with mercy, forgiveness, and love.
Deliver us from darkness,
and make us witnesses of Your kingdom.
Let our lives proclaim:
Jesus Christ is King of Everything.
Amen.
