“I Will Rejoice in Your Salvation” (Feast of St. Cecilia)

 readings 112225

We all know someone who chases what glitters.
They see the fleeting treasures of this world—comfort, applause, possessions—
and mistake them for joy.

But joy is not found in what fades.
It is found in what endures.

Why do so many miss it?
Because they were offered the same grace,
the same chance to sow in faith—
yet they chose the lure of shortcuts.
And when those paths collapse,
they blame the world
instead of turning their gaze back to God.

The Gospel reminds us:
You cannot cling to passing things and expect eternal reward.
You cannot live resurrection while grasping at shadows.

The Sadducees tried to bind eternal life to earthly categories.
But Jesus revealed the truth:
Resurrection is real.
Life with God is not bound by distraction or temporary gain.
Those who rise are children of God,
and to Him, all are alive.

Saint Cecilia understood this.
Her song was not seduced by the passing world,
but lifted by trust in the eternal.
She sang through trial,
knowing suffering was not the end,
but part of the long road to lasting joy.

Her life became a hymn—
not to worldly acclaim,
but to Christ who is forever.

So turn from the lure of this passing world.
Walk the long road of faith,
where obedience is not burden but freedom,
and where joy is not fleeting but eternal.

And as we walk, let us sing—
with Cecilia, with the martyrs, with the whole Church:
“I will rejoice in your salvation, O Lord.”

Prayer of Enduring Joy

Lord Jesus Christ,,
when the world dazzles with fleeting light,
teach us to seek what endures.
Turn our gaze from passing treasures
to the promise of resurrection.

Let obedience be our freedom,
and joy our quiet strength,
as we walk the long road of faith
toward You, who are forever.

Amen.
