Readings 100526
I hear it all the time.
"Just be yourself."
"Live your truth."
"Follow your heart."
"Be the real you."
And at first glance,
it sounds wise, freeing,
even inspiring.
But there is a question hiding beneath it all:
What if the "you" you are being
is not yet the "you"
God created you to become?
The problem is not that you are unique.
The problem is that you are unfinished.
So am I.
Our vision is limited.
Our desires can be disordered.
Our judgments can be clouded.
Our hearts can mistake preference for truth.
That is why Saint Paul warns
against creating a different gospel,
one shaped by human opinions
rather than God's revelation.
The culture says,
"Be true to yourself."
Jesus says,
"Follow Me."
The culture says,
"Look within."
Jesus says,
"Look beyond yourself."
The culture says,
"Create your own truth."
The Gospel says,
"Receive the Truth."
And that changes everything.
Christ is not about
becoming more of who I am.
It is about becoming
more of who God intended me to be.
Not self-discovery alone,
but transformation.
Not self-expression alone,
but conversion.
Not my truth,
but His Truth.
The greatest version of yourself is not found
by looking deeper into yourself.
It is found
by looking more deeply into Jesus Christ.
For only when we lose ourselves in Him
do we finally discover
who we truly are.
Prayer
Lord,
Save me from mistaking
my voice for Yours.
Give me the humility to receive truth
rather than invent it.
Shape my heart into the person
You created me to become.
May I follow Christ faithfully
until Your image is seen in me.
Amen.
