Christian Flash Fiction: The God Moment

Then the LORD said, “These prophets are telling lies in my name. I did not send them or tell them to speak. I did not give them any messages. They prophesy of visions and revelations they have never seen or heard. They speak foolishness made up in their own lying hearts

The God Moment

Father Jerry held a degree in physics. But, it was at the seminary contemplating the infinite God that his physics became metaphysics. In this, he found “it”. It was an unintentionally discovery realized in the infinite that is God. He called “it” the God Moment.  

The priest scientist surmised, time was one of the greatest mysteries of God and, like God, eternal and immutable. Time is but an eternal moment that has existed, an eternal moment that exists now, and a moment that will exist.  To travel in time, a person would just have to figure how to move from one eternal moment to another by crossing multiple moments between the present moment and the destination moment.

The God Moment started in meditation. His meditation always focused on a favorite reading. Realizing in the reality of life every person moves forward one moment at a time, the priest would focus on a specific individual’s consciousness and particular moment in their existence. With this, he learned how to skip the in-between moments. First, he learned to go backwards in time and eventually forward.

At first, he was able only to see things that happened. The more practiced he became the more he was able to interact with the moment and finally able to totally enter into the moment. Becoming in the process part of the person he focused on, not exactly the person but a visiting part of that person’s thoughts and feelings. Jerry knew them. Influencing what they did and what they spoke. When he was ready to return, he simply realized the present moment.

In the God Moment, he visited many.  In these visits, Fr. Jerry always identified those he knew as a teacher or a prophet. Of course, through-out history, many spoke against those he knew, but Jerry taught truths of the things to be in moments to come. In the moments past of history, those he knew were understood to be the speakers of the truth.

Now he was ready for the uncharted moments of time to come.  Fr. Jerry would be able to speak in the moment on the truths found in moments to come. To do this, he would focus on his own consciousness in a perceived future moment. 

Concentrating on moments to come, he traveled to future moments.  He returned and spoke prophesy. His first trips were visits to near future moments and he knew himself and those moments in truth. His prophesy proved true. People listened, his fame grew, and his fortunes as well.   

It was after these first short moment hops that he began to see them in the distance. They were there in the future moments that became the present moments.  Creatures like men dressed in white with a brilliance of light. Each one was attentive to his words but silent remaining in the distance.  Often times they would be close enough so that he could see swords of fire at their side, yet they only watched.

Sure of himself, he began to visit more distant moments. What he saw moved him to an urgency to speak the truth, knowing his truth in future moments. But, his message was not unambiguous succinct words. So he spoke the message of prophesy as those he knew had spoke in past moments. He spoke against the falsehoods being prevailed by the leaders and accepted by the people.

Some listened but most laughed at his new prophesy. It was a truth they did not want to hear.  So, he told the world about the God Moment and again they laughed. Late night television hosts made jokes and televangelist called him a false prophet, an anti-Christ. His ultimate fate unlike the moments before was the fact that in the future moment was now present becoming history. Fr. Jerry could not escape time.

The Creatures in white drew their swords and did smite him. A sedated Father Jeremiah St. John was place in an ambulance.  They took him away.  In God and the moment, truth is eternal and immutable.
