Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Readings 120825

My grandson and granddaughter were in our little chapel of repose.

He looked at the tabernacle, turned to his sister, and said:
“That is Jesus’ and his momma Mary’s house.”

His mother corrected him: “That’s the tabernacle. That is Jesus’ house.”
He thought for a while and replied: “I love you. I live with you. Why wouldn’t Jesus be with his mother?”

Out of the mouths of children, truth often comes.
Simple words. Deep wisdom.

That is the heart of this feast.
The Immaculate Conception is about God preparing a home.
A dwelling place.
Not stone, but flesh.
Mary—the living tabernacle.
The first true meeting place of God and humanity.

Think of a family preparing for a guest.
The house cleaned. The table set.
Everything ready before the guest arrives.
That is what God did with Mary.
From the first moment of her existence, He preserved her from sin.
She was prepared. A spotless vessel. A living tabernacle.

Saint Paul tells us God chose us “before the foundation of the world.”
Mary is the first to embody that destiny.
Grace came before her response.
Her “yes” was possible because grace had already filled her.

The Ark of the Covenant carried the Law, the manna, the rod of Aaron.
Mary carried the Word made flesh, the Bread of Life, the true High Priest.
She is the Ark of the New Covenant, prepared by the Spirit.

And her greatness?
Not in power. Not in pride.
But in humility.
“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.”

Here is the truth of this feast.
God prepares us before He calls us.
Grace goes ahead of us.
Grace makes us ready to say “yes.”

Mary is not only the dwelling place of God.
She is the model for us.
We too are called to be living tabernacles, carrying Christ into the world.

May we, like Mary, be ready when God calls.
And may our lives sing her song:
“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.”

Come let us celebrate the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary, let us worship her son, Christ the Lord!

Prayer – Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Lord God,
You prepared Mary from the first moment of her life
to be a pure dwelling place for Your Son.
Through her “yes,” You brought salvation into the world.

Prepare our hearts as You prepared hers.
Let Your grace go before us,
making us ready to answer Your call.

May we, like Mary, be living tabernacles,
carrying Christ into the world with humility and joy.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
