Finding Christ Within

Readings 121025

If God is within us…
If Christ is present in others…
Why do we struggle to find Him?
Perhaps because we do not pray enough.
Not the prayers of petition—we know those well.
Lord, I need this. Lord, help me. Lord, I am sick, I am hurting.
We fill in the blanks. We ask.

But prayer is more than asking.
Prayer is presence.
Prayer is relationship.
Prayer is the child resting in the Father’s love.

St. Teresa of Avila reminds us:
“If a soul wishes to speak with its Father and enjoy His company, it does not have to go to heaven… It needs no wings to search for Him but only to find a place where it can be alone and look upon Him that is within oneself.”

We must seek God not only during prayer,
but in all the acts and occupations of life.
If He dwells within us, then every moment is holy ground.
If Christ is present in others, then every encounter is a meeting with Him.
Prayer teaches us to recognize this presence,
to carry it into our work, our rest, our service, our daily tasks.

This is the heart of prayer:
to lift our eyes on high,
to see the One who created all things,
and to bow low,
to discover He has chosen to dwell here—
within us, among us, beside us.

Jesus says:
“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest… Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.”

Rest does not come from asking for more.
Rest comes from abiding in His presence.
From learning His humility.
From walking His way.

Prayer opens our eyes to Christ already here.
In silence.
In Scripture.
In one another.

Prayer of Presence

Heavenly Father,
You dwell within us,
and Christ is present in those around us.
Yet so often we fail to see You.

Teach us to rest in Your love.
Teach us to listen for Your will.
Teach us to understand Your way.

May our prayer be not only words,
but communion.
Not only asking,
but loving.
Not only seeking,
but finding You already here.

Amen.
