We Are All Blind in Some Way

Readings 120525

We are all blind in some way.
Blind to truth.
Blind to love.
Blind to the quiet presence of God in the ordinary.

And because of this blindness, we stumble.
We stumble through a world that attacks what is most sacred—
family, faith, the very fabric of who we are.

The culture tells us that enlightenment comes from ideals that float above reality.
But in truth, it is reality itself—
the gift of creation,
the bonds of love,
the call of faith—
that we fail to see clearly.

Yet blindness is not the end of the story.
The prophet promised:
"Out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see."

And so we turn to the Gospel.
As Jesus passed by, two blind men cried out:
"Son of David, have pity on us!"

Their cry was not polished.
It was not perfect.
It was simply human.
A cry of need.
A cry of faith.

Jesus did not ignore them.
He asked one simple question:
"Do you believe that I can do this?"

And when they answered, “Yes, Lord,”
He touched their eyes.
Their sight was restored.

This is the rhythm of grace:
We acknowledge our need.
We cry out in faith.
Christ responds with mercy.

The miracle was not only that their eyes were opened.
The miracle was that their hearts were opened to trust.
And once healed, they could not keep silent—
they spread the word of Him through all the land.

We are all blind in some way.
Blindness is our common need.
Faith is our common cry.
Mercy is our common gift.
Hope is our common discovery.

And so healing begins—
when we admit our weakness,
when we stop pretending we see everything clearly,
when we confess that we need the Lord
to touch our eyes, our hearts, our lives.

And so, together, we pray:
"Son of David, have pity on us!"
Open our eyes to the truth of Your love.
Open our hearts to the beauty of Your creation.
Open our lives to the mercy that makes us whole.

For in acknowledging our common need,
we discover our common hope:
Christ Himself—
who passes by,
who listens,
who heals,
who restores.

Prayer: Open Our Eyes, Lord

Lord Jesus,
we are blind in so many ways—
blind to truth,
blind to love,
blind to Your quiet presence in the ordinary.

You hear our cry:
"Son of David, have pity on us!"

Touch our eyes with Your mercy.
Touch our hearts with Your love.
Touch our lives with Your healing grace.

Open our eyes to see Your truth.
Open our hearts to trust Your promise.
Open our lives to share Your hope.

In Your mercy is our common hope:
Christ, who listens, who heals, who restores.

Amen.
