When the Word Draws Near - Homily Reflection Christmas Day

Readings 122525-Day

Blessed be God,
and praise be to Jesus Christ,
forever and ever. Amen.

Come, Holy Spirit.
Fill us with joy.
Set our hearts ablaze with Your presence.

Merry Christmas everyone.

I remember when my children were born—
those first moments of holding them,
seeing all the promise of who they were
in a tiny, squirming infant.
It was overwhelming, beautiful, unforgettable.

And on this Christmas Day,
I invite you to stand in that moment again—
not with our children,
but with another Child.
A Child whose birth is meant
to draw us into a relationship
deeper than anything we have ever known.

Because today, the Good News
is not only spoken…
it is born.

“In times past,” Scripture says,
“God spoke in partial and various ways.”
But today—
in the fullness of time—
God speaks to us through His Son.

The Word of God
does not come as a message from afar.
Today the Word comes as a Child—
God‑with‑us,
God‑for‑us,
God‑near‑enough to hold.

The Word became flesh.
God became visible.
Love took on a human face
so our hearts could be drawn
to the love of things invisible.

Just as a newborn pulls you close,
Christ comes close to us—
inviting us not to an idea,
but to a relationship.
A relationship where God
is no longer distant,
but present,
gentle,
and near.

The One who spoke the stars into being
now breathes softly in a manger.
The One through whom all things were made
rests in Mary’s arms.
Here, in holy littleness,
God reveals His greatness.

And this nearness calls something forth in us.
If the Word has become flesh,
then our lives must become a place
where His Word is lived.

The Incarnation invites us
to look for God in the small and ordinary—
in kindness,
in patience,
in quiet acts of love.
It urges us to welcome Him
in the simple goodness
that reflects His heart.
It challenges us
to let His light enter
the hidden corners of our hearts.

For in the Incarnation,
God reveals not only who He is…
but who we are called to become:
Children of the Light.
Bearers of His presence.
People whose lives
make the Gospel visible.

So on this Christmas Day,
as we rejoice in the Word made flesh,
may we choose goodness,
walk in holiness,
and let our lives speak His love.

When we love as He loves,
the Word becomes flesh again in our world.

That will be very Merry Christmas for everyone.

Praise be to Jesus Christ,
now and forever. Amen.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,
Word made flesh,
draw near to my heart today.
Let Your light enter the places
that are small, hidden, or afraid.
Teach me to love as You love,
to see as You see,
and to welcome You
in the ordinary moments of my life.
May Your presence become my strength,
and may my life reflect
the beauty of Your Incarnation.
Amen.
