Works of Eternal Value

Readings 121125

Holiness isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing with God.

Think of the rhythm of a day—waking, working, speaking, listening.
On the surface, it all looks small.
Forgettable.
But here’s the mystery: every act can either vanish like smoke… or carry eternal weight.
The difference lies in whose will is behind it.

Jesus said, “Among those born of women there has been none greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the Kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”
Greatness in God’s Kingdom isn’t measured by effort.
It’s measured by surrender.

Isaiah gives us another image: “I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; Fear not, I will help you.”
When we let Him take our hand, even deserts become rivers, wastelands become forests.
What was barren becomes fruitful.

Picture a child working beside his father.
If he insists on his own way, the project falters.
But when he listens, every nail, every brushstroke becomes part of something lasting.
So it is with us.

Holiness is not grand gestures.
It is quiet surrender.
To lose our will in His will is to discover that our works are no longer temporary.
They echo in eternity.

So when you face an ordinary moment today, pause.
Remember: works done in His will have eternal value.
And that changes everything.

Prayer: Works of Eternal Value

Lord God,
You take us by the hand and whisper,

“Fear not, I will help you.”
Teach us that holiness is not in doing more,
but in doing with You.

Make our ordinary moments echoes of Your Kingdom.
Help us surrender our will to Yours,
so that in all things, great or small,
Your work may shine through us.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
