Love That Builds

Readings 091026

There’s a question I ask the children,

and it still speaks to grown hearts too:

Who loves you? — Jesus!

Amen.

Saint Paul told the Corinthians,

“Knowledge can make you proud,

but love builds up.”

And Lord, isn’t that the truth.

We can chase success,

collect titles,

win every debate—

and still miss the one thing

that makes a soul whole.

Love.

Not the kind that flatters,

but the kind that bends low,

steady and patient,

lifting others higher.

I think of Daniel,

a boy who loved being right

more than being kind.

Until one day,

a new student sat beside him at lunch—

no judgment, just kindness.

And Daniel learned

that love builds more than knowledge ever could.

We adults aren’t so different.

We chase approval,

control,

comfort—

things that can’t love us back.

But Jesus can.

And Jesus does.

He calls us to notice

the lonely, the hurting,

the ones sitting off to the side

in the cafeteria of life.

Because His love in us

is meant to become

His love through us.

So today,

let your heart lean toward mercy.

Let your kindness preach louder than words.

And let this truth settle deep:

Who loves you? — Jesus loves you.

And because He loves you,

you can love others too.

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

Let Your love

steady my heart

Teach me to build up,

not tear down.

Make my kindness

quiet blessing to others.

And let Your mercy

guide every step I take.

Amen.
